It’s inevitable; with autumn comes melancholy. As cold winds and rain spells take over the northern hemisphere people like me usually look for a piece of sad bastard music to watch and see the leaves turn red and gold by. Luckily there is enough of that to goes around nowadays, so between all those different shades of grey I chose the psychedelic folk of Heron Oblivion to be my annual soundtrack for autumn-gazing. What do Stockholm, Paris, Los Angeles, Glasgow and Utrecht have in common? Well, all cities were recently visited by the graceful singer-songwriter Angel Olsen. Olsen released her sophomore LP, Burn Your Fire For No Witness, this February and has been on tour ever since, playing night, after night, after night. The EKKO stage in Utrecht (The Netherlands) was the next in line for Olsen. And since the album made it to our ‘not to be missed in 2014’ section, a visit to this gig just couldn’t be resisted.

So who doesn’t want to party to some sleazy blues rock in a huge tent during a high summer afternoon? I imagine a lot of you are already preparing for this by securing some tickets for this year’s music festivals. Once there, you’ll will probably notice there will be a lot of bands to choose from, especially in the rootsy blues rock scene that’s booming once more.
